The Chinese car maker is starting to build a strong base
XPeng Inc., founded in 2014 in Guangzhou, China by He Xiaopeng (former UCWeb CEO), Xia Heng, and He Tao, is a leading Chinese smart electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer focused on integrating advanced technology and sustainable mobility. The company initially specialized in smart driving technologies, leveraging early investments from Alibaba and other major backers to develop its first prototype.
XPeng’s portfolio includes the G3 and G9 SUVs, P7 and P5 sedans, and the X9 MPV. These vehicles target tech-savvy middle-class consumers and families, offering features such as advanced driver-assistance systems (XPILOT), fast charging (up to 480 kW), and intelligent connectivity. The G9, for example, boasts 31 sensors, a luxurious interior, and a dual-chamber air suspension. XPeng also provides comprehensive charging solutions for EV owners.
XPeng distinguishes itself through in-house developed software and hardware, emphasizing AI, lidar, radar, and camera sensor fusion for autonomous driving. The company’s recent AI Tech Tree and collaborations with Volkswagen have accelerated innovation, particularly in electronic architecture and charging infrastructure.
XPeng primarily serves urban professionals, tech enthusiasts, and families in China, but is rapidly expanding overseas. The company continues to invest in R&D, aiming for mass production of innovative vehicles like flying cars by 2026.
