QuantumScape Corporation was founded in 2010 by Jagdeep Singh, Tim Holme, and Professor Fritz Prinz. It is headquartered in San Jose, California, and specializes in developing solid-state lithium-metal battery technology for electric vehicles (EVs) and other applications.

QuantumScape's technology focuses on solid-state batteries that offer higher energy density, faster charging, and enhanced safety compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries. Their batteries can charge to 80% in 15 minutes and operate between -20°C and 45°C. They introduced the QSE-5 prototype with a volumetric energy density of 844 Wh/L and a gravimetric energy density of 301 Wh/kg.

Key partners include Volkswagen, which has invested significantly in the company. QuantumScape also collaborates with VW PowerCo for the volume production of batteries. Additionally, they have agreements with companies like Fluence Energy for stationary energy storage applications.
