Lucid Group Inc., headquartered in Newark, California, is an American automotive and technology company focused on designing, developing, and manufacturing luxury electric vehicles (EVs), EV powertrains, and battery systems. Founded in 2007 by Bernard Tse and Sam Weng, it was initially named Atieva and rebranded as Lucid Motors in 2016.
Lucid's primary products include the Lucid Air luxury electric sedan and the upcoming Lucid Gravity electric SUV. The company develops proprietary software in-house for its vehicles. Lucid distinguishes itself through its in-house hardware and software innovation, vertical integration, and a clean-sheet approach to engineering and design. Key technology focus areas include ultra-efficient electric powertrains, advanced battery cell technology, and aerodynamic vehicle design.
Lucid targets the luxury electric vehicle segment, competing with Tesla and other premium EV manufacturers. Lucid Group announced an additional $1.5 billion in funding from Ayar Third Investment Co., an affiliate of PIF.
